An advanced practice nurse is a registered nurse who has acquired the knowledge base, complex decision-making skills and clinical expertise for expanded practice, usually with a master’s degree. A registered nurse acts as a caregiver for patients in a medical setting. An RN assists a physician and other health care professionals in several health care environments. They are found everywhere from the operating room to a doctor’s office and are usually the first health professional a patient sees. Registered nurses listen to patients, take vital health information, collect samples, write down patient information, monitor health equipment, administer medications and therapies and work in conjunction with a physician or NP. I will be talking about Jean Watson since she is one of the theorists we talk about so much thus far in our courses. The Jean Watson`s theory is one of the theories that can be applied to advanced practice nursing. Her theory is specific towards the views, and cares for patients as the nurse`s primary responsibility that facilitate patients healing process. In order for the patient to get better, the nurse must be able to understand their patient (Zaccagnini & Pechacek, 2019). In the self-care theory, this focuses on the role of nurses in supporting the ability of the patients to be responsible for their own care.
