PERSONAL SUSTAINABLE LIVING PLAN ASSIGNMENT AND EXPECTATIONS:
Create a personal plan for making changes in your lifestyle in an effort to live more sustainably. The plan will
include specific ways you plan to reduce your consumption of energy, resources (e.g., paper, clothes), food, and
water, and will be organized according to seasons. The plan will illustrate a lifestyle that seeks to achieve the
interconnected objectives of sustainability: economic vitality, environmental integrity, and social equity. There is no
minimum length requirement for the plan, but it should be clearly written and reflect your familiarity with all the
assigned course materials. It should include a list of resources (e.g., useful recipes, websites, blogs, etc.) that are
useful to anyone wanting to follow the plan (including you in the future).

For my garden plan, the most optimal place to plant my own foods is at my parents house in the backyard. Ive always been a little interested in gardening and to me it seems to be a very smart thing to do. The garden will be 11 11 x 13 11, and will be a mix of containers and rows. This will be the layout of the garden. (Image inserted below).
As you can see from the layout of the garden, it is indeed a vegetable garden and includes foods such as strawberries, potatoes, carrots, basil, as well as peppers. I will purchase the premium sustainable seeds online on Amazon.com, and the plants will be purchased at Lowes Garden Center. These will all be heirloom, organic, and non-genetically modified seeds and plants. The vegetable garden includes a bit of design to assist in the plan of action. I understand certain plants do well together such as carrots and tomatoes, while other plants dont do well next to each other, such as asparagus and onions. I will be adding tomatoes to the design of the garden, and having them next to the carrots, to aid in companion planting. For fertilizer I will use Liquid seaweed, it is one of the best organic fertilizers you can use in your vegetable garden. Most seaweed-based fertilizers are made from kelp. It contains over 50 nutrients and amino acids, and helps plants thrive during stressful growing conditions. For pest control, I will use an organic pest control garden spray recipe. For those who may be somewhat interested, I had added it below.
- 1 medium onion.
- 4 cloves garlic.
- 2 cups mint leaves or 20 drops peppermint essential oil.
- 2 tablespoons cayenne pepper.
- 2 tablespoons liquid castile soap (or biodegradable liquid dish soap)
- Water.
In terms of my diet as well as other non tangible rewards, I think there will be many benefits.
The environmental impact and footprint would be less than what it is currently. I am slowly converting to a greener lifestyle and hope it will make a change in my footprint. It would be more sustainable because the goods that I would purchase would be locally grown and harvested. To make it more sustainable, I need to reduce household energy use, eat locally, save water, recycling everything I can, and donate everything I can. From No Impact Mans experiment, I can incorporate trying to avoid making trash. I can compost the right way, and can reduce my work traveling.
