Mr. Cane’ wife died last year; Mr. Cane’s son is visiting him while he is hospitalized. Mr. Cane is post operative day 2.You are the nursing student assigned to Mr. Cane. You have already measured his vital signs: temperature, 36.6°C; blood pressure, 152/82 mm Hg; pulse, 88 beats/minute and regular; and respirations, 18 breaths/minute, respirations are shallow, he is breathing on room air. He indicates he is having a lot of pain. You are now checking the patient’s chart and medication administration record to see which interventions and medications the physician has ordered for Mr. Cane.
