In this assignment you further define your project scope and identify data sources that help you determine how to address your selected problem.

Determine the scope of your selected problem, considering appropriate qualitative and quantitative data points, for example:

Overview
In this course you synthesize the major program concepts in a final leadership project. Each week
focuses on an aspect of the final project. Carefully select your topics that you can thoroughly analyze.
This course is designed to be an in-depth look at a topic or project of your preference. Courses
throughout the program have prepared you to take a more holistic look at how a nurse in practice would
look for quality improvement or evidence-based practice opportunities in their health care setting.
Before Selecting a Topic
Before you select a topic, review all of the course deliverables. Each week will build on the one before.
Topics should be broad and in-depth enough that you are able to gather and consider information for all
assignments.
Week 1: Define the Problem
This weeks assignment is to identify the focus of your project and anticipate the ethical, legal, and
regulatory concerns that can or will arise.
Completing the Question Development Tool from this weeks learning activity will be very helpful in
guiding your topic selection and ensuring the topic will meet the requirements for the coming weeks
deliverables.
Define the problem.
Identify the patient-centered problem/issue/topic and the setting it will impact.
Broadly outline your proposal to address the problem/issue/topic.
Summarize ethical, legal, and regulatory concerns.
Explain why you chose the topic.
Week 2: Information Management: Defining the Scope
In this assignment you further define your project scope and identify data sources that help you determine
how to address your selected problem.
Reviewing the sites listed in the Key Quality Improvement Strategies learning activity should help you
select some of your data sources.
Determine the scope of your selected problem. Consider both qualitative and quantitative data, for
example:
Leader and peer interviews
Patient/customer surveys
Quality reports
Benchmarking studies/baseline data. If baseline data is available:

Week 3: Research and Evidence: Research and Evidence: Support the Need for a Change
In this assignment you find evidence from literature and journals that supports the need for your proposed
change.
The performance appraisal tools in this weeks learning activity should help you determine good sources
of evidence to cite this week. Keep in mind, its possible that your project will not use both research and
non-research evidence, but most will.
Find a minimum of three original research articles to support your project and summarize the articles in
350 words. The articles must be:
Peer reviewed
Recent (published within 5 years)
Statistically significant
Find current guidelines and summarize them in 350 words.
Consider processes, policies, and clinical guidelines that relate to your chosen issue or problem.
Include PDFs of the articles as well as a reference page with an APA-formatted citation for each article.
Week 4: Project Translation and Planning
In this weeks assignment you work through the planning and implementation stages of the project. This
will require you to determine goals, resources needed, and consider change management.
Define an improvement goal and explain how you would measure the change.
Create a project plan. Consider:
Resources needed
o Supplies and equipment
o People
Timeframe for implementation
Data collection mechanisms
Change and leadership theories to ensure success
Week 5: The Role of the Nurse Leader
This weeks focus is the nurse leaders role in this and similar projects.
Consider the nurse leaders role at each stage of your project.
Determine actions the nurse leader needs to take to ensure project success. Consider the following:

In NSG/451, Professional Nursing Leadership Perspectives, you looked at broad change project topics. In
NSG/456, Research Outcomes Management for the Practicing Nurse, you developed a PICO question,
considered the ethical impacts, and looked at evidence to support. Using those thoughts as a basis for
this assignment is a good place to start so you can do a more in-depth analysis in this class.
