Module 1 Assignment

Getting Started:

Install SPSS and download/unzip all the data files from SPSS Survival Manual Support web site using the instructions in “Data files and Website” beginning on p. viii of your Pallant (2020) textbook.  Carefully review the information in Chapters 1-5, as this information is essential for preparing your data for analysis.

Descriptive Statistics:

Complete the Descriptive Statistics procedures in Chapter 6 using the survey.sav data.  You will receive immediate feedback on your analyses by comparing your answers to those listed in the Pallant (2016) textbook. Look for the boxes that start with “Procedures for…”, as these are the steps for the procedures required for each chapter. If you are unable to complete all the analyses for the assignment at one time, make sure you save and name your output (.spv) when you exit so you can continue working on your assignment by simply open this file using File>Open. Your new analyses will automatically appear below your previous analyses. All SPSS output data from the chapter and additional exercises must be submitted.

Additional Exercises:

You will utilize the procedures you learned in Chapter 6 to complete the additional exercises.

You are a chief nursing officer and you have been charged with the task of providing a written description of location, number of affiliated physicians, total discharges and total staffed beds of 40 acute care hospitals in the United States. Utilize data from 2018

You have access to hospital overview data from 40 acute care hospitals in the United States.

For this assignment:

Gather the description of state, number of physicians, discharges and staffed beds of 40 acute care hospitals in the United States and place the data in the excel codebook in the Data Recorded Tab. You will need to filter data as you did in N755PE to assure you have the correct data for the analysis.

Recode categorical (nominal) data as you learned in N755PE prior to entering the spreadsheet into SPSS for analysis.

Enter the excel spreadsheet into SPSS.  Make sure you label variables (Pallant Chapter 4) in SPSS according to the metadata tab.

Follow the procedures in Chapter 6 to answer the following questions:

What percentage of hospitals are operating in OH?  What percentage of hospitals are operating in TX?  What percentage of hospitals are operating in NM?

What is the mean number of physicians, discharges and staffed beds for all 40 acute care hospitals?

What is the median number of staffed beds for all 40 acute care hospitals?

Is the number of discharges normally distributed across the 40 acute care hospitals?

4. Provide a written summary of the descriptive statistics for the 40 acute care hospitals in the United States.  Remember to utilize the guidelines presented in your textbook and those provided by your professor in the course announcements.

5. Make sure analyses are APA formatted and that you are following APA rounding rules.

Saving/Submitting:

Both your statistical procedures and additional exercise analyses should be in one SPSS output (.spv) file. Export this output file as a Word/RTF file and name it YourName_A1. All SPSS output from chapter practice exercises and additional exercises must be included in the word file in order to receive credit.

Module 2 Assignment

Statistical Procedures:

Open the survey.sav file. Complete the procedures in Chapters 7, 8, and 9 for describing data using graphs, manipulating the data and checking the reliability of a scale. Skip the procedures for “Transforming Variables” in Chapter 8.

Additional Exercises:

Additional exercises will require you to use the procedures you have practiced from chapters 6, 8 and 9.

In Pallant (2020) complete Chapter 8, Health Questions 1-3 and Chapter 9, Health Question 1.

All additional exercises require a written analysis that should be included at the end of your word/RTF file. When available utilize templates for presenting statistics “Presenting the Results” boxes found in Pallant (2020).

For credit to be given, all SPSS output from chapter procedures and additional exercises must be exported and included in the word document.

Saving/Submitting:

Save both your statistical procedures and additional exercise analyses in one output file and export it to a Word/RTF file. Name the Word document YourName_A2.

Statistical Procedures

In Pallant (2020) complete 11, 12, 13, 14, & 15. Note you will need to use different files for these analyses so please read the instructions carefully.  Do not construct Table 1 on page 202, as this is not one of the procedures.

Additional Exercises:

Additional exercises will require you to use the procedure you have practiced from chapter 11.

You are a chief financial officer and are curious if there is a correlation between net income, total employees, total overhead costs, total salaries and total staffed beds.  You have access to financial data from 40 acute care hospitals in the United States.

Utilize data from 2017

Research Question:  Is there a relationship between net income, total employees, total overhead costs, total salaries and total staffed beds in 40 acute care hospitals in the United States?

Hypotheses:

H1: There is a relationship between net income, total employees, total overhead costs, total salaries and total staffed beds in 40 acute care hospitals in the United States.

H0: There is not a relationship between net income, total employees, total overhead costs, total salaries and total staffed beds in 40 acute care hospitals in the United States.

For this assignment:

Gather the  net income, total employees, total overhead costs, total salaries and total staffed beds of all 40 acute care hospitals and place the data in the excel codebook in the Data Recorded Tab. You will need to filter data as you did in N755PE to assure you have the correct data for the analysis.

If needed, recode categorical (nominal) data as you learned in N755PE prior to entering the spreadsheet into SPSS for analysis.

Enter the excel spreadsheet into SPSS.  Make sure you label variables (Pallant Chapter 4) in SPSS according to the metadata tab.

Typically, at this point you would run normality statistics, but for this assignment we will assume data is normally distributed and meet the assumptions for a parametric test.

Run a Pearson Correlation on the data.

Write up the analysis using the template presented in your textbook.  Each relationship should be written separately. Tables of results will not be considered a written analysis.

At the end of the analysis, answer the research question and accept or reject the null hypothesis.

Make sure analyses are APA formatted and that you are following APA rounding rules.

Module 4 Assignment

Statistical Procedures:

Complete all the statistical procedures for Chapter 16. Note the different data files you will use to complete all the nonparametric tests in Chapter 16 for this assignment! While switching back and forth from data files may seem tedious, there is a logical reason for having you do these tests in this order, as the tests progress from basic to complex. Open the survey.sav data file and complete the procedures for Chi-Square Test for Goodness of Fit and the Chi-Square Test for Independence in Chapter 16. Open the experim.sav data file and complete the procedures for McNemar’s and Cochran’s Q test. Open the depress.sav data file and complete the procedures for Kappa Measure of Agreement. Open the survey.sav and complete the procedures for the Mann-Whitney test. Open the experim.sav and complete the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Open the survey.sav and complete the procedures for the Kruskal-Wallis Test. Open the experim.sav and complete the procedures for the Friedman Test.

Addiional Exercises:

Additional exercises will require you to use the procedure you have practiced from chapter 16.
