As a clinical supervisor, I encourage knowledge exchanges within healthcare despite status barriers by the following: It begins with leadership, and doctors and nurses have trust and higher respect to their boss, who have a shorter track to communicate with both professions. They are also the ones who address mistakes made by both. Medical Directors should start accepting the importance of active professional collaboration between health professions and promote it through the following strategies below (Mann, 2019).Performing a Root Cause Analysis and a SWOT Analysis to review existing policies related to how sharing knowledge is encouraged and hindered and revise accordingly. Assessing the policies and updating them to date will help the organization to solve knowledge-sharing issues. This includes seeing what promotes or motivates employees to share knowledge and what hinders or makes them afraid to share (Mann, 2019). Aside from reading the full-text policies thoroughly, the boss can also do a survey or research within the organization wherein employees will anonymously answer the surveys and have the right to give their opinions on what to revise, add, or remove. This will help the boss and the board in updating the policies. Some issues that might be addressed or that might come out are the following: trust and motivation, incentives or rewards, job security (afraid to lose their job), lack of confidence in others, errors or mistakes, low awareness, language, cultural differences, poor interpersonal skills which the following strategy can address (Martínez Sanz, M.,2016).They provide an effective professional environment and development for promoting active professional communication. Employees must be well informed about shared knowledge and its limitations through seminars, training, meetings, and actual patient management. Unprofessional acts like gossiping and reluctance to criticisms must be addressed accordingly. It is also important to stress that professional collaboration is the utmost priority to achieve the best patient care during these activities. One must not be afraid of coordinating with the other in terms of patients’ best care possible. Tasseli (2016), it must be clear that both professions have vital roles in the institution and will never be on the same road, but they are of the same destination- the best quality of care for the patients. Boosting interpersonal skills must also be taken into consideration with these activities. Many people lack the skill to express themselves. They cannot find the right ways to let it out, so they stay with the notion of ‘better left unsaid,’ which might impede development in the profession and the patient’s care (Tasseli, 2016).Stress these policies as early as possible to newbies. Traditionally, new hires learn and mimic what they see in their environment, so it is best to keep them informed of the change as new generations come (Martínez Sanz, M.,2016). Old employees will find it hard to apply these policies, so there is a higher chance that they will still keep on showing old routines.
