She was semi-comatose and had been ill for several days. Past history of left ventricular failure. Current medication was digoxin and a thiazide diuretic. pH 7.31 PaCO2 32 mmHg HCO3- 19 mEq/l PaO2 75 mmHgSaO2 81%  10.  A 69 year old patient had a cardiac arrest soon after return to the ward following an operation. Resuscitation was commenced and included intubation and ventilation.
