You sit down with him for an assessment, to determine how you can help Marc.Marc tells you how he has been homeless on and off for all of his adult life and also part of his childhood.Mac’s parents were both addicted to heroin, They moved around a lot when he was a child and stayed in temporary housing or with friends or family. They would stay until they were no longer welcome. When the family ended up with no place to go when Marc was 14, the Department of Human Services got involved and Marc’s parents lost custody over their children.Marc and his sister lived with their grandmother for about 1.5 year but she passed away unexpectedly. After this, Marc lived in Youth Transitional Housing until he was 18. This was the first time that Marc started using drugs himself. It was easy to get his hands on through the other youth in the facility. After he turned 18, Marc lived in different boarding houses.He started a Certificate in Carpentry after high school but could not support himself financially so quit and found a job in a factory. He would often feel depressed as he had no family support to rely on and not many friends. The friends he did have, used a lot of drugs. Marc started using more and more as well, getting high with his friends would be the only thing that would make him feel good. Eventually, Marc lost his job because he stopped turning up at work. Not too long after that he lost his room In the boarding house because he wasn’t able to pay rent any longer. He has been on the streets for months now, spending his New start Allowance on food and drugs. Marc tells you he feels hopeless.
